The Risks of Relying on AI for Financial Advice
While artificial intelligence has been touted as the future of financial guidance, a recent study has revealed some concerning pitfalls.
Researchers Gary Smith, Valentina Liberman, and Isaac Warshaw from the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence put four popular chatbots to the test. The results were less than impressive.
Despite their sophisticated algorithms, chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o and Google’s Gemini 2 struggled to provide accurate financial advice. In fact, none of the chatbots scored higher than 5 out of 12 points in the study.
Questionable Accuracy
Some of the chatbots even gave outright incorrect information, such as misjudging expenses for a rental property. Their responses lacked the depth and accuracy expected from financial advisors.
It’s important to be wary of blindly following the advice of chatbots, as their seemingly intelligent responses may not always be reliable. The researchers warned against placing too much trust in these AI systems, as they could lead users astray.
