ara Trump has made headlines with her announcement to step down from her role as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). This decision comes as she looks into new opportunities alongside her father-in-law, President-elect Donald Trump, who is gearing up for a return to the presidency.
One of the avenues she is contemplating is taking over the Senate seat currently held by Florida’s Marco Rubio. Trump has nominated Rubio for the position of Secretary of State, and if he is confirmed, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will need to appoint a successor to fulfill Rubio’s term, which lasts until 2026.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Lara expressed, “I would genuinely give it a lot of thought. To be completely honest, I’m not entirely sure what that would entail. I want to gather all the necessary information if this opportunity is a real possibility for me. But absolutely, I would consider it.”
Since her appointment as RNC co-chair back in March, Lara Trump has been influential in helping the Republican Party regain control of the White House and the Senate while managing to keep a narrow majority in the House. Her subsequent choices could significantly shape the future of Republican politics, especially given her close ties to the incoming president.

The idea of a Trump family member stepping into a Senate role has garnered support from various factions within the Republican Party. Notably, Maye Musk, mother of Elon Musk, has publicly endorsed Lara for Rubio’s seat, stating, “The Senate has become an old man’s club. We critically need a smart, young, and outspoken woman to expose their secrets.” Lara Trump is currently 42 years old.
Elon Musk, who attended election night festivities alongside Lara at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, echoed his mother’s sentiments, remarking, “Lara Trump is genuinely great.”
Under the guidance of chairman Michael Whatley and Lara Trump, the RNC made substantial investments in organizing around 230,000 volunteers and assembling legal teams for what they deemed their “election integrity” initiative. This followed Donald Trump’s loss to Democrat Joe Biden four years ago, during which Trump raised unverified claims of voter fraud. Other groups, including Turning Point Action and Musk’s America PAC, took proactive steps in advertising and voter engagement efforts.
As Whatley continues his role as RNC chairman, Lara Trump shared that she feels she has accomplished her goals during her time as co-chair.
“After that significant victory, I feel like my time has come to an end,” she reflected. “I believe I have accomplished what I set out to do.”
Lara Trump also commended Elon Musk’s recent initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. This task force aims to streamline government operations, with its leadership including Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Their goals encompass laying off federal employees, cutting programs, and reducing federal regulations as part of Trump’s “Save America” agenda for his forthcoming term.
“I genuinely believe we haven’t witnessed such transformative movement in our federal government since the founding of our nation,” she asserted. “If they succeed in their objectives, it will significantly benefit America.”
She anticipates a new approach in this presidency, particularly regarding the structure of the administration. Unlike Trump’s previous term, where family members like Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner held advisory roles, Lara Trump believes this time there will be no family members involved in official capacities.
“He is genuinely focused on delivering an excellent four years of service, with no desire to extend beyond that,” she noted. “It’s four years, and then he’s done.”
Additionally, Lara Trump envisions a more cohesive Republican Party than ever before. Since her co-chair appointment in May, the Trump campaign has merged with the RNC, resulting in staff layoffs and a restructuring of roles. She indicated that this transition could create challenges for GOP lawmakers who do not align with Trump’s vision.
“The party has completely transformed,” she claimed. “I think people are feeling emboldened to openly express their political opinions.”
