Joe Rogan made desperate rule-change plea to UFC that was immediately rejected – UFC News

In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Joe Rogan revealed his efforts to enhance fighter safety in the UFC. Despite his longstanding support for the sport, Rogan shared how his plea for a rule change to improve fighter safety was met with resistance from the UFC owners.

A familiar face in the UFC since 1997, Rogan has worn many hats, from ringside reporter to color commentator. During a conversation with UFC lightweight Jiri Prochazka, Rogan disclosed how he urged the UFC’s ownership group, including the super-agent and CEO of Endeavour, to consider eliminating weight cutting when they took over the promotion in 2016.

Rogan’s proposal aimed to prioritize fighter safety by implementing random weight tests to prevent extreme weight cutting practices. He also suggested the creation of additional weight classes to ensure more balanced matchups among fighters. His vision included introducing weight classes every 10 pounds to provide fighters with more suitable opponents based on their natural weight, promoting healthier competition without compromising safety.

Despite his impassioned plea, the UFC did not immediately act on Rogan’s suggestions. Nevertheless, his commitment to improving fighter safety and advocating for fair competition in the UFC remains steadfast. Rogan’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to prioritize the well-being of fighters and uphold the spirit of competition in the sport.
