Did you know that sunscreen in the United States is considered a drug and must undergo rigorous approval processes by the FDA? This means that the ingredients in sunscreen are closely regulated, with no new chemicals or minerals approved for use since 1999. Quite different from Japan, where sunscreens are classified as cosmetics and are a staple in daily skincare routines.
While in Japan, I discovered the amazing Shiseido Future Solution LX Day SPF 30, a lightweight sunscreen that left my skin glowing. This sunscreen is packed with antioxidants, collagen-building properties, and amino acids to strengthen the skin barrier. It blends in smoothly without leaving a white cast, truly embodying the concept of “cosmetically elegant.”
Along with the Shiseido day cream, I also picked up other Japanese sunscreen favorites such as the Shiseido Urban Environment Vita-Clear Sunscreen SPF 42 and the Bioré UV Aqua Rich Sunscreen SPF 50. I also fell in love with the Anessa Perfect UV Skincare Milk SPF50+ and the Nivea UV Deep Protect & Care Gel SPF 50+ PA++++.
Since my trip, I’ve been diligent about applying sunscreen and even started wearing UPF gloves while driving, as recommended by Dr. Kim. Fashion trends have also influenced my sun protection choices, with the popularity of opera-length gloves on red carpets inspiring new ways to protect against the sun’s harmful rays.
So next time you’re out in the sun, remember to protect your skin with sunscreen and maybe even some stylish accessories for extra flair and protection!
