Join me on a journey into the world of TikTok, where I set out to share the wonders of the African net sponge, known as Sapo in West Africa. This eco-friendly alternative to loofahs quickly captured the hearts of many, thanks to its durability, longevity, and easy maintenance.
My TikTok videos educating people about the benefits of the African net sponge quickly gained traction, leading to a viral video in August 2023 that resulted in a surge of 300 orders in a single day. The momentum continued to build, culminating in a weekend with 10,000 orders that transformed our small operation into a team of seven full-time employees fulfilling 500 orders daily.
Our direct partnership with suppliers in Nigeria not only fueled our growth but also positively impacted their livelihoods, growing from a small team to a workforce of 100. This growth story resonated with our customers, who value our commitment to making a difference both locally and abroad.
While the future of TikTok Shop remains uncertain, given its significant role in driving 85% of our business, we are optimistic about exploring new avenues for growth and connecting with our community. Despite the challenges, we are excited about the possibilities for new beginnings and continued impact.
