Reflecting on Musical Journeys with RÜFÜS DU SOL
In the early days, James Hunt had an instinct when he joined forces with Jon George and Tyrone Lindqvist of the celebrated band RÜFÜS DU SOL. He sensed they were embarking on a remarkable journey, but he could hardly have anticipated the extraordinary heights their music would achieve. Recently, during a conversation on Men’s Health’s Instagram Live series, Friday Sessions, James opened up about how surreal it still feels for him, even after all these years in the industry.
Our discussion touched on various aspects, including the recording of their latest album in the vibrant city of Austin and their unique pre-show breathwork rituals. One fan even remarked on the healing qualities of their music, which brought back fond memories of my first encounter with their sound during a yoga class. The rich melodies and rhythmic beats allowed me to find my center, seamlessly linking my breath with movement.
The title of their new album, Inhale/Exhale, is particularly fitting. Although they didn’t intentionally set out to craft an album aimed at breathwork, the tracks possess a soothing quality that can certainly complement your practice. James explained that the title and the songs emerged organically after the writing process, with elements of breathwork subtly integrated into their creative journey.
Over the years, the camaraderie among the band members has deepened, partly due to a group therapy experience that facilitated conflict resolution and helped maintain a positive studio atmosphere. Even though they are separated by vast distances, living on opposite coasts, they prioritize coming together for their collaborative efforts, nurturing both their time spent together and their creative synergy. This invigorating dynamic is evident in RÜFÜS DU SOL’s latest album, whether you’re intentionally syncing your breath to the rhythm or simply enjoying the music for what it is.
